Kathleen Hernder is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor who is passionate about helping people get off the dieting roller coaster and reclaim a good relationship with food and their bodies. Nutrition therapist, food behaviour expert, coach, foodie, and science nerd all describe Kathleen. She uses evidence-based recommendations combined with a compassionate and collaborative approach to find strategies that work for you and your life.
Kathleen's food philosophy is that eating should be enjoyable, not the enemy! She works from a weight-neutral framework, which means she focuses on supporting clients to improve their behaviours to improve their health instead of focusing on the scale. She uses Intuitive Eating principles to help you to reconnect with your body's internal cues of hunger and fullness and how different foods make you feel to help guide your eating. She knows that everyone is different and tailors her approach to you- if you are completely disconnected from your hunger and fullness cues, she will start with a more structured approach to help you reconnect. If you feel your cues, she will encourage you to experiment with ways to tune into them more.
Holding a degree in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Alberta, Kathleen completed an Integrated Dietetic Internship and graduated with distinction. She is registered with the College of Dietitians of Alberta, is a member of Dietitians of Canada, and is a Certified Diabetes Educator.
Kathleen is passionate about sport nutrition and working with clients to fuel their bodies for optimal performance. Gut health is another specialty area including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) management.
